With the Monday morning battle between a fervent desire to stay in bed and an early train to catch having been negotiated in relatively painless fashion, I somnambulated towards Haymarket station with my usual look of bemused disorder.
I called in at Cucina LC in the hope that they might conjure me up something to munch on, as I clickety-clacked my way northwards.
Despite its proximity to my abode, I’d never previously visited the place, so I took a moment to take in the surroundings. With cute butterfly wallpaper, and an overall sense of calm, it’s a charming little spot.
I was struck by their selection of salad boxes, listed on their extensive blackboard. It ran to some 29 different options, which was an impressive feat of neat handwriting, aside from anything else.
They seem to have a solid commitment to fresh, local ingredients. With this in mind, it was a little surprising to see them serving Illy coffee, rather than showcasing a more local roastery, so that’s perhaps something for them to consider.
My breakfast selection was a link sausage roll, with brown sauce. It was served on a soft morning roll. I tried their espresso, too, all in the name of the mad dash to complete the Espresso 100.
With roll in hand, I dashed towards my train and was soon tucking in, aboard the 08:39 to Inverness.
The sausages proved to be rather tasty, with a good meaty flavour to them. The sachet sauce wasn’t the best in history, but added a little note of required fruitiness.
So overall, I thought Cucina LC was a rather smart little place, and their breakfast roll served me very nicely. Although I’m rarely in these parts around lunchtime, I’m intrigued by their salad selection, so should try to find the time to give them a whirl. Next time you’re in the neighbourhood, do pop in and visit this lovely wee eatery.
