On my wanderings, this lunchtime, I came upon West Nicholson Street, and with it a nice seam of fresh places for me to try. Beetlejuice caught my eye, so I decided to pop in and see what they had to offer.
The place is a little café space, with room for a dozen or so folks in cosy proximity, either at one of the few small tables, or at one of the shelf counters.
I was in takeout mode, so quickly soaked in my potential options. Soup and a sandwich was the order of the day, so I soon conveyed this to the counter chap. Service wasn’t terribly swift, but after a while I was on my way with a small minted pea soup, and accompanying bread, along with a toasted roasted vegetable wrap.
After a rather pleasant stroll down the road, I was soon unwrapping items for consumption. I enjoyed the soup, very much. It was packed with sweetly minted pea goodness, and had a nicely judged texture.
The wrap wasn’t quite as successful. It was undoubtedly the messiest item to eat that I’ve come across in a long while, with melty goo and veggies falling all over the place. This was mainly due to the filling of the wrap being extremely generous, which was good, but the mixture was just a little too loose.
It was crying out for some variety of flavour, as well, as the elements tended towards a slightly indistinct savouriness. The peppers in the mix didn’t deliver enough sweetness, and it all could have used a good twist of pepper, to liven matters up.
But overall, I was pretty happy with Beetlejuice. The soup was very pleasing and the wrap, while needing some improvement, was certainly generously filled. I’ll probably try lunching at one of their near neighbours on my next venture to this part of this world, but I’d be happy to pop back here to sample some of their other soup varieties, in the future.
