Flutes & Tails
Edinburgh airport is regrettably one of the poorest I’ve visited in terms of food options. On today’s visited I was tempted by a look at Bar Burrito’s breakfast menu but the production-line ladling out of rubber eggs almost turned my stomach and certainly turned my feet towards the exit.
Instead I headed to Flutes & Tails, the airport Champagne bar. I’d reviewed it when it traded as Thermidors a number of years ago. It has changed location slightly but is broadly providing the same function.
Their breakfast deal comprises a glass of house Champagne served with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for £19. In the grand scheme of things this sounded pretty fair. I took a seat then placed my order.
I then watched as the friendly and efficient counter woman mixed up some scrambled eggs. They were then double microwaved but this didn’t faze as microwaved scrambled is a totally valid way to go.
They were a totally decent eat. Sitting atop a seeded rye bread, the eggs were quite well seasoned and there was a good amount of Belhaven smoked salmon on top. I enjoyed it.
Their house Champagne was Besserat. It was a good drop and a joyful way to start my holiday.
So overall, Flutes & Tails did a pleasing job of dealing with my breakfast needs in a suitably celebratory way as befitted the start of my trip to sunny Gran Canaria. I’d eat here again as it’s one of the better options from the slim pickings at Edinburgh airport.
