Where Munchiez once served me one of the most absurdly piled-high burgers (when frankly I was too shit-faced to know better), Kobane has now taken up residence. I popped in to give their Kurdish and Mediterranean wares a try.

With takeaway the main focus of the place, the interior has been given a simple refit to put in a couple of small tables and one large booth. I was in the mood to linger, not least as I suspected whatever I ordered would be messy eating that wouldn’t lend itself to eating on the go, so took a seat at one of the tables.

I’d ordered a lamb and falafel wrap. I was pleased to note the counter man grabbing some dough to freshly press out a flatbread, which was filled then baked. It was then topped with salad and garlic sauce.

It wasn’t an easy item to photograph but looked tempting enough, so I quickly tucked in. It proved a very satisfying eat with the flatbread very good and the filling profuse and really well balanced.

So overall, Kobane was right up there with the likes of Palmyra, Susie’s and Khartoum Cafe as one of the finest purveyors of falafel wraps in the city. For £4 it was excellent value, so I’d happily recommend a visit next time you’re looking for a quick and hearty lunchtime bite.
