Our first review of 2018 welcomes a new takeaway sushi place to Haymarket. Revelling in the name Go Ninja! I caught them shortly after they opened their doors to customers.
To generate interest they were flyering with a 20% off deal so I grabbed a leaflet and headed inside.
The place has a vibrant feel to it. There’s a little bit of Japanese product retail space with a similar feel to Konbo Arcade Cafe. It has some fun puntastic artwork on the go, too.
They’re pitched at the retail sushi market with the nearby offices their target audience. Think a notch up from M&S but a notch or two below Soul Sushi in terms of quality.
I noticed one of their boxes featured their signature ninja rolls so that seemed a decent place to start. These rolls featured yellowfin tuna, takuwan, yukari and chives, with pickled veg and salad on the side.
They made for pretty good eating. The tuna wasn’t of finest quality but the rolls were well-crafted and the pickles were very enjoyable.
So overall, I liked my visit to Go Ninja! It’s a good lunchtime grab-n-go option and should do well in its advantageous location. Haymarket is now a hotbed of Japanese places and while Go Ninja! doesn’t rival any of them for quality, I think it neatly fills a niche.
