My word it was cold in Aberdeen when I disembarked the early train from Edinburgh, the other day. I needed breakfast food and refuge so headed for the nearest likely spot which was just over the road.

Called Sizzlers, it’s essentially a counter takeaway but there’s some informal seating in the back where you can munch from your takeout box. That sounded fair enough to me.

Service was warm and friendly throughout which is always good to find. They walked me through some of the breakfast options. I eventually decided upon the big breakfast with double hash browns. A routine cup of tea was included in the price.

The large polystyrene box was delivered promptly. Upon opening, it steamed with warmth. This looked likely to restore my body temperature to more comfortable levels.

The food proved surprisingly good. The eggs were cooked to gloriously runny yoked joy, the sausages were very decent, the black pudding excellent, the hash browns a notch above the usual standard, and the rest all pretty fair. I was impressed.

So overall, Sizzlers may not look like much but it’ll serve you a good quality, low-cost breakfast that’ll likely please. It was exactly what I was looking for to warm up on a chilly morning. I’d be happy to return.
