A wee jaunt to Aberdeen with a little lecture at the university to squeeze in between breakfast and lunch was a grand way to spend a recent Friday.
Having almost frozen to death on the train journey up – Scotrail had forgotten to pay the electricity bill for the carriage in which I was berthed – I decided to thaw out over an espesso at Foodstory, a little cafe just off the main drag of Union Street.
I actually visited twice, both before and after my speaking engagement and sampled their Workshop peaberry espresso (£1.90) on both occasions.
The place is very smartly appointed with a mix of seats ranging from pews to roundtables to comfy sofas. It had a lovely feel to it.
They clearly have a strong commitment to their coffee – as well as an impressive array of healthy breakfast and lunch dishes – with full brew bar and cold brew from Edinburgh coffee wizards Brew Lab.
I found their espresso just a trifle citrusy for my palette but this typical of peaberry’s brightness. It was well crafted.
So overall, it was good to discover Foodstory and find such good quality coffee in the city. I’d be happy to visit again and would recommend it to those who appreciate coffee.
