Turkish Carry Out
After my reluctant exploration of burritos made another mediocre stop at Bar Burrito, I wasn’t really in the mood for another any time soon. However, when I found myself on Easter Road I remembered that regular guest quester Gary had often extolled the merits of the wraps at the nearby Turkish Carry Out.
Gary was with me at the time, too, which was rather handy.
The place is a pretty standard takeaway counter set-up with a couple of chairs and tables more designed for waiting rather than for sitting-in.
Gary recommended the falafel wrap so I ordered two of them; one with chilli sauce and one with garlic sauce. The various components on the dish were added to the wrap casing then lightly toasted on the grill.
The items were loaded into a big paper bag which was then stapled shut. This seemed a bit over the top, but these were weighty beasts so the heavy-duty carrying apparatus was not out of place.
The wrap proved to be a monstrous eat, with the falafel of really good quality and the other elements providing punchy flavour and crunch. Gary was defeated by it, but I powered through to completion. I enjoyed it a lot.
So overall, the wraps at the Turkish Carry Out are right up there with the best in the city, alongside places like Susie’s and Khartoum Cafe. I’d recommend a visit when you have a big appetite to feed as these are an impressively large and satisfying eat.
