I’m not sure Mania is a great name for a food outlet. It put me in mind of the now departed Mango Mayhem which is never a good thing.
Anyhoo, I’d had this pizza and fried chicken place on my radar for a while without ever getting round to visiting, so after a quick pint at the excellent Cloisters I popped in to give it the once over.
The interior is pretty pokey, reflecting that it does most of its business as delivery. The overwhelming smell is of frying oil. Moving on.
I ordered the quattro formaggi not least because the blend of cheeses sounded impressively good: mozzarella, goat’s, talleggio, gorgonzola. This was a delicious cheese pizza not for the faint of cheesy heart.
The friendly counter folks were soon about preparing things and it was not long before I was on my way.
With photos taken under an obliging lamp-post, I tucked in. It proved pleasingly good fare. The base was good without totally knocking it out of the park, but the topping was a better blend of cheeses than the much-vaunted equivalent pizza at Dough, which is high praise indeed.
So overall, although Mania has a silly name and it’s a slightly grim little shop – which is the major factor in the less than stellar overall score, below – their pizza was really good. I’d be more than happy to visit again and would encourage you to do the same.
