GY Chinese Takeout
After a long day of celebrating that had concluded with far too much wine, I was still feeling remarkably together and just about capable of eating something, so toddled towards Marchmont for reasons that were not entirely clear to me at the time or since.
After encountering a couple of places that were just closing, I alighted upon the GY Chinese Takeout, which proudly proclaimed that it had been trading since 1973, which sounded rather impressive.
The welcome at the counter was extremely warm and I enjoyed a very engaging conversation about martial arts where I was able to contribute fulsomely from my memory bank of quotes from the Karate Kid films.
I ordered quite simply with a little starter selection prawn toast, spring rolls and seaweed, then some roast duck and noodles.
I was promptly on my way, then tucked in once returned to the bosom of my armchair at home.
The starter selection was pretty ordinary, but the duck was very good and the noodles did their job with aplomb. Considering I was drunk and the pricetag was very reasonable, this was an extremely good fit for need.
So overall, I doubt that GY is the best Chinese takeout of all time, but in the situation that presented itself it performed to a pleasing standard. I’d be happy to swing by again when next I need a quick, simple, inexpensive bite.
