Brew Lab West End – SADLY NOW CLOSED

I’ve been a bit remiss in not writing something about the new branch of Brew Lab, on Queensferry Street Lane, before now, so I’m glad to rectify that today.

In a former garage, Brew Lab owners Tom and Dave have put together a rather smart, industrial-chic coffee bar that is splendidly close to my abode.

I visited on their first day of trading, before the full furnishings had arrived, then for their launch which was packed out with a mountain of familiar faces from the Edinburgh coffee scene. It was a highly enjoyable evening – to which I wore my special coffee shop launch party mittens – with the cold brew martinis a particular triumph.

On the coffee front, their Southside branch has shifted its emphasis from a house Hasbean blend to focus more on single origin coffees. This is reflected in the new place, too.

Options change regularly with the Kenyan I tried on my third visit probably the outstanding espresso (£2.40) I’ve tried so far.

So overall, Brew Lab remains at the very forefront of Edinburgh coffee. Their excellent team consistently pour outstanding coffee in a range of styles. I suspect this is just the start of expansion plans, so it will be interesting to see how their brand develops in the next few years. Make sure to visit, soon.
