I was highly intrigued by talk of the St Vincent’s new food offering, Feed. It promised dirty (in a good way) burgers, rib and wings served in the homely local surroundings of one of Stockbridge’s most refreshingly self-effacing pubs.

Owner Chris’s beard is the stuff of legend, so it was good to see him working away in the corner when I arrived. There was quite a throng cluttering up the place as the regular BIMA Thirstday was in full swing. After I’d said hello to a couple of folks, I got down to the real business of the evening.

Their menu, currently served on Thursdays to Sundays, offers a good range of burger options. It seemed appropriate to try the Feed burger, which packed in bacon, pickles and Auld Reekie cheese atop a beefy burger in a sesame bun.

With a busy bar, it took three stout rings from the chef on the kitchen bell to attract the attention of the waiting staff, but items were with me soon enough.

I wasn’t 100% sold on the sesame seed bun, but that aside this was right up there with the best burgers in the city. With beef from local butcher George Bower, the burger was juicy, flavour-packed and deeply satisfying. The pickles, bacon and cheese were really good too. The chips were crisp and light, making for joyful eating. I was impressed.

So overall, it was great to see Feed on such fine form from the outset. If you’re looking for a top-notch burger in welcoming pub surroundings then this is the place for you. Make sure to visit soon.
