On my recent travels around the city, I’d spotted an impressive sounding lunch deal in Anima’s window, so headed to Henderson Row to give it a try, today.

The posher half of noted chip shop L’Alba D’Oro, Anima showcases traditional Italian pizza and pasta dishes. Their winter lunchtime deal allow you to sample one of these for the princely sum of £3.99.

From the wide selection, I chose the reggio, which comprised nduja salami, spinach and sundried tomatoes in a tomato and basil sauce. I had a choice of pastas, choosing fusilli ahead of spaghetti or penne. A took a seat at one of their smart window shelf seats.

My dish was promptly delivered by the super friendly counter woman. It looked really pretty bonnie. It proved to be a dish full of flavour and pizzazz. The tomatoes were excellent, as was the nduja and the pasta was very nicely cooked. It ticked all the boxes.

With the impressively good Civerino’s having recently launched looking to meet a similar need for quick, informal, high-flavour Italian dishes, it was timely to visit this established favourite and verify it’s still producing high quality dishes.

So overall, I’d be happy to recommend a visit to Anima. Their current lunch deal is excellent value so definitely merits a try. I’ll need to head back and give their pizza a try, next time my lunchtime appetite extends to that.
