Samsun

Back in the dim and distant past of university days, we had quite a little sport in finding good late night pizza spots. This has, of course, continued into questing days, with Moratti very high in our current estimations.

Back in the day, one of our favoured spots, after much trial and error, was Samsun on Fountainbridge. I took a trip down memory lane and gave it a late night visit, once more.

Still in the same ownership, the place has been given a decent tidy since my heyday, with a couple of tables and chairs now available to plonk yourself in while you wait for your order. I opted for my regularly preferred topping of pepperoni and mushroom.

The pizza was soon with me, so I headed for home, eating while I walked.

It was just as I remembered, with the base quite light and fluffy, and packing a good herbiness to it. The topping was profusely cheesy and quite satisfying.

So overall, Samsun continues to do good work. There are places that have, over the years, supplanted it in my mind as the finest exponent of late night pizza, but it’s still doing a darn good job. I’ll no doubt be back again, before long.
