It was a pleasure to run into one of the former staff members from Razzo, now gainfully employed at Valvona & Crolla’s stall. He apologised for there being no espresso for me to try (although it’s apparently soon to be added to their selection) but I was fine with that, as I was in the market for more solid refreshment.
I liked the sound of their steak pies (£2.50) and added a sausage roll (£3.50) to that. I actually thought the latter item would be an actual sausage roll, but it turned out to be a roll on sausage. It was my misunderstanding.I found a suitable perch and after taking the inevitable photos, I tucked in. The roll proved to be very tasty. A wonderfully meaty and flavourful sausage was encased in a nicely springy roll. Decent mustard added extra tang.
The pie was similarly very good. Packed with a good amount of chunky meat, the pastry was very light, making for enjoyable eating. So overall, while the Valvona & Crolla name means that things were just a little more “reassuringly expensive” than they really should have been, the quality on offer was highly pleasing. I’d recommend a visit.

Didn’t make it to this stall, it was mobbed! But did have the creamy chowder bun – mmm could go one now!
The chowder was definitely the winner! 🙂
