I’d popped in to Alexander’s, on West Port, for espresso drinking purposes, previously, as they seem to be the only place in the city centre that serves Grumpy Mule coffee. On this visit, I was keen to give their food a try.
The place does most of its business as takeaway, with nicely branded bags and signs for packed lunches. I noticed that, like so many places, they’ve starting offering pulled meat sandwiches, at lunchtimes, which today was pork.
My focus was on a breakfast roll, so decided to combine both options, bacon and sausage, in one doubler roll, with the addition of some brown sauce to bring things together. The counter woman was friendly and efficient, and I was soon on my way, with roll in hand.
The nice, sesame seed roll was generously filled with a couple of sausages and rashers of bacon. This represented decent value for £1.80.
The quality was pretty good, with tasty mouthfuls of meaty goodness chasing away my morning hunger. It could have used just a bit more brown sauce, to provide a little more tang, but that was a fairly minor quibble with what was an enjoyable eat.
So overall, as a morning roll place, I thought Alexander’s did the job very nicely. I hope to make it back to try their lunchtime pulled pork, as that sounded quite tempting. Perhaps I’ll schedule that in for the next time meat week comes around.
