I’d spotted an interesting looking burger stall at the top of Middle Meadow Walk, a few months back, so thought it would be a very good fit for today’s need when its existence popped into my field of view.
This part of town is fast becoming a lively little street food district, with the very tasty Ninja Buns a little further down Middle Meadow Walk (but are now regularly trading at Paradise Palms), and the excellent Tupiniquim just across the way.I’m not sure the burger stall really has a name, but the top of their menu board proclaims “American Hotdogs & Burgers” so that’s we’ll call it for the purposes of the review.
Their selection is simple: burgers and dogs in a couple of different sizes. A cheeseburger and a jumbo dog were each priced at the meagre sum of £1.80 so I decided to give both a try.The great joy of the place is the stallholder. I believe he’s from Bulgaria and he’s quite a character. During my brief stay, he engaged in merry banter in an impressive array of languages, including an interview with a film crew conducted in quickfire Spanish.
He cooks burgers to order, while hotdogs are grilled from part-cooked. Both items were soon with me, looking simple and steamingly hot.The hotdog was up first and proved enjoyably good. The burger wasn’t quite so good, but still packed a decent amount of beefy flavour and the onions that topped it were soft and sweet.
So overall, I really enjoyed my stop at this burger stand. It was a wonderful little interlude on a busy Saturday, and while the quality of the food was in three star territory, it’s so very cheap and so very uplifting, I can guarantee that I’ll be back for many future visits.
