Creelers

Having been a bit of a Saturday snoozer for many years, I seem to have developed a little routine of getting out and about to tour the Saturday markets, most weekends.

I popped along for a quick check at the Tram Stop Market, today, then wandered to the Castle Terrace farmers’ market, where I’d recently sampled the burgers from the Buffalo Farm.

Having given the Nusou chaps a wee wave, I headed along to Creelers. Many of you will remember that they used to have a restaurant on Hunter Square. Originally from Arran, where they still have their permanent base, it was good to see them back in town.

Combining both seafood for home cooking and some ready to eat treats, their market stall has proved very popular and today was no exception. I decided to sample their fish soup (£3.50) and couldn’t resist adding a couple of Otter Ferry oysters (£1.50 each) on the side.

The soup proved to be very good, with an abundance of fresh fish flavour in a spiced tomato-based broth. It was delicious.

The oysters were monstrous and packed their usual taste of the sea. They were plump, fresh and deeply satisfying. They rounded out a very enjoyable visit, which I look forward to repeating on many occasions on the future. This is a must-visit for seafood fans, I reckon.
