The Lady Fillers
I’d been rather remiss in not visiting the Edinburgh Food Social’s indoor market at the Biscuit Factory before now. They’d been playing to large and appreciative audiences, so I was keen to see what was what and finally got my act together on a recent Sunday.
Using the ground level bar space that was home to Kansas Smitty’s during last year’s Festival, I found things abuzz with live music, stalls and punters when I arrived.
After a stroll around and a look at Edinburgh Community Food’s Syrians in Edinburgh stall, I pondered what I might want to eat for lunch.
After quick hellos to Piece o’ Cake, Bon Accord and Servus Haggis, I eventually alighted upon the amusingly named Lady Fillers. Their stall promised nachos with various toppings. This sounded like a decent plan to me.
I’m no nacho expert so I sought the advice of the stallholders on what I should chose for my topping from their choice of four. The verdict was a blend of their cheesy jalapeno dip and their spicy chicken (£4.50). This was topped with cheese, bacon and sour cream. It looked monstrously good.
It proved outstandingly good with the spicy cheese combo particularly satisfying and the chicken cooked low-and-slow for excellent depth of flavour.
So overall, The Lady Fillers are starting out – this was their second ever day of trading, I believe – from a really impressive standard. There are tweaks to be made to get things exactly right but on the basis of today’s showing they are very close indeed to a five star review. I look forward to trying their wares again soon and would heartily recommend you do likewise.
