Milano

I was sad to hear about the untimely death of the owner of Dario’s, which was a veritable Edinburgh institution under his and previous ownership. Milano has taken over the premises and keeps the enduring Italian tradition going. I stopped in for late night takeaway, as was usually the way with the previous place.

The menu packs all the old favourites so it’s very much a case of evolution not revolution. The place has been given a decent spruce-up, though. The welcome was typically warm.

I ordered their americano pizza which came topped with spicy mince, pepperoni, ham and bacon. I paid for a 12″ but with confusion reigning slightly at the counter they made me a 14″ inch instead. I was not for complaining.

With photos taken I munched as I strolled. It was a notch better than my memory of the last pizza I had under the old regime with a little thinner and crisper base. The topping was suitably meaty.

So overall, Milano seems to be ably upholding the Dario’s tradition. I can imagine it will pay host to many further late night visits, over the years. I look forward to that.
