Petits fours from Scratch Series

Petits fours from Scratch Series

Scratch Series was the most entertaining and intriguing dining experience we’ve had in 2015. Under the careful stewardship of Ben Reade and David Crabtree-Logan, a multi-course extravaganza unfolded in the upstairs room at Iglu. It will live long in the collective memory of everyone who was there over their limited run.

Ben’s new project, working with partner Sashana Souza Zanella, is The Edinburgh Food Studio, an undertaking which has innovation, celebration, collaboration and taste sensation at its heart.

They’ve launched a Kickstarter drive to transform the Newington location they’ve already secured into a convivial dining space. Given that it has reached over 42% of its £10k target in the first day or two, I’m pretty confident the target will be reached, but this is one where pushing things on beyond the initial goal will only make this already highly exciting project even better.

Aside from being a dining space, the Food Studio will hold workshops, masterclasses, and be an innovation space for food and its links to many other aspects of artistic endeavour. 50% of profits will go into researching and exploring Scotland’s food. This work will be disseminated via an online journal, due to launch in early 2016.

So dust off your wallets and get backing this fantastic work. I have the feeling that this is the start of some real culinary magic.
