Where last year Knight’s Kitchen (now freshly open in new permanent premises on Nicolson Street) served up bunny chow and other tasty items of east African delight, just next to St John’s Church, Social Bite has popped up a burger, hot dog and beer stall to feed and water the Festival masses.

For those of you who haven’t come across Social Bite, they’re a local social business employing a good proportion of homeless or former homeless folks and ploughing profits back into the charity sector. They are much valued and much loved.

After a quick perusal of the menu, I was hooked in by the Festival burger (£6.95), which brought together a beef burger, bacon, cheese, onions and tomato relish. It was piled on a soft, floury bun.

I took a seat at their “secret garden” seating area and tucked in. It proved very tasty eating with the burger of pleasingly meaty quality and the supporting elements offering excellent enhancement. I was very happy with it.

So overall, I’d happily recommend a visit to Social Bite’s burger pop-up. You’ll be impressed with their simple and tasty food. I must visit again to give the interesting looking beer, by Brewgooder, a go.
