I’ve written in exultant terms about the burgers at BBL on a number of occasions, but to mark their fourth birthday, I visited to try one of the latest additions to their menu.

They’ve fashioned an outstanding new 6oz burger from Northumbrian wagyu/Angus cross beef, to sit atop their excellent burger menu. For the princely sum of £7.50, you can try this stunning beef served on a sesame brioche bun, accompanied with cheese and crisp salad.

After wishing owner Mandy a happy birthday, I took a seat, straightened my soon to be rain-drenched pinstripes and awaited the fresh preparation of the burger. When it arrived it looked immensely good and after pausing to photograph the beast I tucked in.

It was as fine a burger as I’ve tasted in the city, with only their own regular menu items to rival it. Every mouthful was packed with profound beefy notes, the cheese was excellently melted and tangy and the bun provided all the necessary structural integrity. It was a truly outstanding item.

So overall, BBL has maintained and even exceeded its own peerless standards of burger excellence. This wagyu/Angus burger is one that’s not to be missed, so we’d strongly recommend that you visit at your earliest convenient opportunity.
