Until fairly recently, August has been one of the weaker months for dining in Edinburgh, with a glut of visitors making for a “lowest common denominator” type of approach. Fortunately, the wonderful array of street food stalls offering a excellent diversity of provision.

The great Festival street food carnival included excellent pizza from Pizzette and SoLaTiDough, veggie treats at the Whitmuir Farm Truck, delicious seafood at Love Fish, meaty delights at Smoak, and sushi at Soul Sushi’s Secret Garden, which was our most popular review of the month.

We also sampled excellent pies and beer at the Bow Bar.

We really enjoyed Goya 23, a redemption visit to L’Escargot Bleu, and new ramen and sushi place Hakataya.

This month also saw the Brazilian crepe stall Tupiniquim threatened with closure, but with a remarkable effort across the Edinburgh food community it was saved following a successful Kickstarter.
