You’ll have had to be hiding in a social media free zone over the past few days to have missed my frequent and fervent entreaties concerning Tupiniquim, the excellent Brazilian crepe kiosk, which was one of our Top in 2013 places. They are in the midst of a Kickstarter drive to secure their future.

This represents the third Kickstarter/Crowdfunder project relating to Edinburgh food that we’ve supported, having given a small amount of time and money to Union of Genius and Bloombox.

Those were both hugely rewarding experiences, not only for the businesses, but for us, too. The collective sense of achievement of being part of something that enables a great local business to flourish is not to be underestimated.

Edinburgh is blessed with a thriving crop of local independent businesses. These are the places that capture our hearts and our returning custom, so when they make calls for support the community has responded outstandingly.

For Tupiniquim, we need to move quickly, as at time of writing they’re closing in on their £10,000 target, but the bigger the final total beyond that, the better. They have 7 days remaining.

In their four years of business, the Tupiniquim family has grown to encompass a wonderful spectrum of characters. I’m a relative latecomer to the party, as I was slow to act on a recommendation from the city’s finest literary paparazzo, who has also been instrumental in getting this Kickstarter up and running. I’m now a fully paid-up cheerleader for their excellent gluten-free crepes and delicious juices. I hope to finally make it for their feijoada today, too.

In the last couple of days of the Festival, please head along and visit the kiosk, sample a crepe, hear a song on the Bamboo Belly stage, and give generously to their funding drive.

Here’s the Kickstarter link once more. Thank you all very much.
