Babu Kitchen

With an upcoming charity walk once more on the agenda (this time the Children 1st Kiltwalk), I was glad to get back out on the roads for some hard miles of training.

This also gave me a good excuse for another visit to Stockbridge Market which I hadn’t visited for a wee while. The sun was out so the crowds were packed in.

After a wander around all the stalls, with a pause to say hello to Mlle Macaron, I decided upon Babu Kitchen for a quick snack stop.

I’ve been meaning to visit their place in Glasgow for a wee while, but as regular readers will know I seem to only ever be in Glasgow at breakfast time, these days. On the basis of today’s dish, a delicious moong daal tadka (£2.50) I’ll be making it a priority when next I have a free Glaswegian lunchtime.

The hearty lentil soup was warmly spiced with fragrant ginger and cumin, then topped with coriander for further aroma, some onions for crunch and a squeeze of lime for zing. This made for wonderfully complex spoonfuls.

So overall, Babu Kitchen was very impressive. I look forward to trying other dishes both at their market stalls and in their permanent Glasgow home. I’d heartily recommend a visit.4 stars 2
