Thyme

Much in the same way as the city was cloaked in mist, I was feeling a little foggy, this morning, so ambled up the road to work in need of something revitalising. I found it at Thyme, in the shape of a toasted banana roll.

This marked something of a departure from my recent habit of relying upon various pork products for this type of thing, so perhaps this was the moment when I finally made my move to a more healthy approach to breakfasting…but I wouldn’t count on it, just yet.

Prepared in the style of a panini, I was asked if I wanted honey and/or butter to augment the filling. I chose butter, and I’m glad I did, as it proved to be quite sweet enough. A little more salty butter wouldn’t have gone amiss, but that was probably linked to the lingering effects of my morning desire for bacon, as much as anything else.

I was pleased with the roll, with the crunchy, toasted exterior working well with the chunky, soft banana filling.

They served a pretty decent Artisan Roast espresso, for the princely sum of £1.40, too, so that provided another element of morning good cheer to brighten my day.

So overall, I thought Thyme was doing good work from its smart and friendly premises. Their selection of salads, soups and sandwiches all looked good, so I should make a point to revisit for lunch, soon. For now, I’d be happy to point you in their direction for early morning sustenance, as I found their banana roll to be very tasty.

Thyme used to be my local lunchtime spot. The salads with half cous cous and half greens are lovely. And they do a great coronation chicken too! Toasted banana roll sound good, I used to make something similar myself with banana, peanut butter and honey on a toasted bagel – an acquired taste but I thought it was delicious!
