Zea

Exterior

I was in a right hurry to get along the road, today, but still had to cram in lunch, somewhere, so ended up at Zea, an airy looking little place, in Rose Street. And I’m rather glad that’s where I chose, as it was a hoot.

It’s clearly a popular wee place, as was evidenced by the lingering queue, even though it was towards the end of lunch service when I arrived.

Sandwich counter

The guys behind, working as a seamless integrated unit, are quite a sight to behold. The entertainment they provide (which is a scream) is worth the visit, in and of itself. Their mirth radiates throughout the shop, too.

Soupy soup

I was very happy to comply with the board specials, opting for pea and ham soup followed by a toasted cheese, bacon, and mushroom ciabatta.

Toasted ciabatta

Things were delivered quickly and I was soon dispatched to sample my delights as I walked along the road.

The soup was good, and the ciabatta a little better than that. My hunger was appropriately sated, in short order.

Overall, I found Zea a great little place. The food is solidly good, but it’s the joy radiating from behind the counter that’s the real selling point. Rarely have I visited a place where the staff were sharing such joy and merriment with their patrons. Pay it a visit soon, particularly if you’re needing a lunchtime smile.
