Twinkie

When you wake up in Paris with a considerable hunger, for whatever reason, examples of which could include a large hangover or a mild to moderate hangover, one has to face the reality that substantial and hearty breakfast is not something done particularly well in western continental Europe unless your hunger manifests as a desire to eat seven croissants.

Accordingly, when one of these eventualities befell me somehow, I acted on a tip and headed around the corner from where I was staying and popped in to Twinkie, a well-established purveyor of all-day breakfasts in various styles.

The place is bedecked in quirky detailing that put me in mind of our trip to the world’s biggest lunchbox museum in Columbus, Georgia.

When it came down to it, I couldn’t actually face one of their big fry-ups instead opting for a simple avocado toast topped with a poached egg. Their coffee was Illy so not up to much.

The dish soon arrived looking pretty good. The egg was accurately poached with a good runny yolk. The avocado with chilli flake seasoning was soft and flavourful and the buttery toast suitably crisp. It was a good dish to start my first full day of wandering around Paris.

Overall, Twinkie was a very good place to discover so many thanks go to regular guest quester Tracey for the recommendation. In the unlikely event of me waking up with another fuzzy head I may well return. Add it to your list just in case such an emergency strikes you during your time in the city.
