Au Rocher de Cancale

The Rue de Montorgueil is a very lively spot for a drink en terrasse and a spot of people watching. The quality of places looks highly variable so I was glad when Paris devotees and regular guest questers Susie and Tracey suggested that Au Rocher de Cancale was one establishment on the street that was definitely worth a look.

I popped in for lunch after a rather lovely morning walking around part of the fantastic Pompidou Centre.

Their menu was classic French bistro fare so I went a traditional route with onion soup to start then an entrecote steak with chips to follow.

The soup quickly appeared topped in the traditional style with a gruyere crouton. It was a very good rendition.

The steak was similarly good with the chips probably the standout item from the meal. The steak was flavourful and cooked accurately to medium rare. I enjoyed it.

I’d accompanied things with a decent glass of St Emilion as seemed appropriate.

Overall, Au Rocher de Cancale is a good place to know about. It served me a tasty and well-priced lunch in very classic, drak wood surroundings. I’d be happy to return and would recommend it to you next time you’re in this neighbourhood.
