Wanderers Kneaded

Dan’s Verdict

On another sunny day in Edinburgh I walked over the Meadows to visit a new street food van that has got a semi-permanent pitch at the south end of Middle Meadow Walk close to Argyle Place.

Wanderers Kneaded serves pizza out of a very snazzy looking truck with a large wood fired oven in the back.

It has a smart looking menu and I was feeling pretty greedy so opted to try 2 different pizzas.

The guy working the van explained that they sourced a lot of their ingredients from an independent Italian supplier.

With that in mind I ordered a pizza with pulled pork (slow cooked for 10hrs overnight in the pizza oven) and scamorza cheese (a semi soft cow’s cheese similar to mozzarella) and as a follow up I had the nduja sausage, gorgonzola and rocket pizza.

The pizzas were hand made in front of me and only needed a few minutes in the oven, which is a real beauty.

Both were delicious with the nduja being the standout ingredient – nice and spicy offset against the gorgonzola cheese.

I would highly recommend this place and it’s right up there with Pizza Geeks as serving the best street food pizza in town. I’ll certainly go back soon to try the pizza with guanciale (cured pigs cheek) which is meant to be outstanding.
