24 Royal Terrace
When I was off on my jaunt to Gran Canaria, I missed a little launch event for the bar at the 24 Royal Terrace hotel. I’d popped in for a late drink shortly after my return and made a note to come and have a proper look at it in the daylight.
Part of the motivation for that was that I’d heard promising things about their rear terraced garden and thought with the increasingly sunny weather it might be good to establish if this was a likely spot.
From the team behind Nightcap and the Vinnie, the street-level bar is quite a departure for them, style-wise. The hotel is design-forward with the walls bedecked in bold artistic pieces. The bar, 24 RT, is run as a concession within the hotel, but will be aligned with the aesthetic and look.
For now, they’re still in soft launch so menu creation and design is still ongoing. You can expect to see seasonally driven drinks and high levels of creativity. For now, their cocktails are classic and reflect an extensive range of spirits, amaros and other whatnots.
The reason I’m writing about it prior to official opening is that it has one of the best al fresco drinking areas in the city. Their terraced garden is again a work in progress, but it’s taking shape wonderfully with umbrellad tables across the tiered levels of greenery and the luxury of sun from early afternoon until well into the evening.
I sampled a classic martini (£8) on this visit and it was made to a really good standard. It featured Arbikie gin which is always a good choice.
So overall, I’ll be back for a proper review once 24 RT is fully up and running. For now, if this good weather continues consider giving their garden a little visit for some relaxed drinks in extremely elegant surroundings. You’ll likely find me there pretty regularly.
