January 20, 2018 Breakfast, Leith No Comments

On my regular route between my abode and my office, I recently spotted a sign proclaiming breakfast rolls for sale for £2.49 outside my local Scotmid store. This seemed an oddly steep price so I made a note to check it out.

This wasn’t my first trip to the store. Aside from occasionally popping in for domestic essentials, I’d sampled their gloopily horrid coronation chicken as part of that much-cherished feature.

The breakfast rolls are available from a concession provided by Stuart’s bakery. This also offers sweet and savoury pies and pastries, filled rolls and baguettes, and a range of other whatnots.

I asked for their breakfast baguette once it became clear that it featured both the mentioned two link sausages and three rashers of bacon rather than either or, making the £2.49 pricetag an entirely more impressive value proposition.

With tightly wrapped item in hand, I walked up Easter Road munching all the way.

The baguette was very fresh and the filling plentiful. The bacon was nicely crisped and while the sausages were slightly more routine they still packed deeply meaty flavour. It was a very enjoyable eat

So overall, the breakfast baguette from Stuart’s at Scotmid is a very hearty start-of-the-day feast. It’s one I’ll sample again particularly when I’m strongly peckish and perhaps not lunching until the middle of the afternoon. I’d recommend it to you next time you’re in this neck of the woods.
