It seems to be a time of great change on Great Junction Street. A number of new businesses have recently opened on the stretch with Greco Pi and Aurora most notable. I spotted another one, the Sunshine Cafe, so popped in to give it a look.
While Aurora is bringing something decidedly different to the neighbourhood, this place is much more along the lines of near neighbours Up the Junction, Mitchell’s and La Dolce Vita. It’s an informal cafe offering low-cost all-day breakfast options and a range of lunch choices.
I was in sandwich mood so was pleased to see they offered coronation chicken. I had that on a soft baguette to go.
The friendly counter woman assembled things to order and had good banter. I was on my way in quick time, munching as I walked.
As reflected in its good showing in the recent Coronation Chicken Top 40 this was a pretty good version of this classic combo. The spicing was warm and plentiful raisins brought good sweetness. I enjoyed it.
So overall, the Sunshine Cafe looks to be a friendly spot for competitively priced breakfast and lunch. I’ll need to come back and try their breakfast which I expect to be strong based on today’s promising showing.
