It had been a wee while since I’d been for a visit to Taste at Buchanan Galleries so when hunger needed addressed before heading back east on the train from Queen Street, I popped in.
My counter trader of choice today was Maracas Cafe, an arepas purveyor. I’d had a good one at Caracas Gourmet just recently so expectations were set fairly high.
They have a good array of whatnots to augment their arepas with empanadas and coxinhas. The filling selection for the arepas was broad, too, but I quickly settled upon the pulled beef and cheese (£3.50).
This was assembled to order and soon with me looking much as expected.
It proved very satisfying eating with the beef deeply flavourful and the cornbread casing of really pleasing quality. It made me sad to think that so many people were tucking into mediocre fare from neighbouring Burger King rather than sampling this joy.
So overall, it was good to find Maracas on such good form. Their food was packed with flavour and charm. I’d commend it to you next time you’re looking for a quick bite in Glasgow city centre.
