September 21, 2017 Breakfast, Leith 1 Comment

On a bright morning, I was headed for my Leith office when I became distracted by the pursuit of coronation chicken.

After a brief but ultimately unsuccessful reconnaissance mission, I found myself approaching from an angle that passed by Derrick’s on Portland Place. I stopped in to check it out.

A compact and down-at-heel little takeaway, it specialises in quick breakfast and lunch snacks. It looked like an ideal spot for a breakfast roll.

Bacon roll

I ordered a bacon roll to which my preferred brown sauce was added. With a friendly smile from the counter woman to send me on my way I munched as I walked.

Having come from a warming dish rather than having been cooked to order the bacon was just a touch leathery. It packed satisfying flavour and the fresh, floury morning roll was good. It was a decent breakfast snack.

So overall, Derrick’s is a simple and unfussy place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. I spotted another such place called Pomodoro just next door so I must come back to give that a try.
