I’ve been enjoying visits to Dundee of late with particularly enjoyable stops at The Bach and Agacan. After an enjoyable hour of thinking, I was in need of a feed so wandered down to the Perth Road and alighted upon Food Anarchy – World Street Food just opposite Duncan of Jordanstone college of art and design.
The interior echoes the local creative environment. They’ve cannily left a sketch book for people to doodle as they wait. Some of the work contained within the one on my table was hilarious and excellent.
The menu is the embodiment of anarchic world food. Have you ever seen pad Thai, burgers, currywurst, churrascaria meats, Korean jachae, Singapore noodles, falafel and jungle curry on the same menu? Me neither.
I quickly settled upon the big kahuna burger – the Hawaiian pizza of burgers. This came with a drink – I chose Vimto – and fries for the princely sum of £6.
Things were cooked to order with fellow patrons ordering from all corners of the menu. The friendly counter man prepared things with considerable relish.
The items looked monstrously good when they arrived. The burger, a double decker with bacon and charred pineapple, was extremely pleasing. The burgers were of really good quality for the money and the flavour combos worked really well.
So overall, Food Anarchy was an excellent find. It’s a place full of warmth, joy and appreciation for good food. The counter man/owner radiates a generous love for what he’s doing that is entirely infectious. Make sure to visit next time you’re in Dundee.
