Hyde & Son
I have a pretty good network of spies across the city that let me know all the interesting new openings as they appear. It took a special correspondent to spot the arrival of Hyde & Son at George Street apartment complex Eden Locke.
While well-heeled visitors check in along the counter, this little coffee concession will look after your caffeine needs. What’s more they have a carefully marshalled wine selection and will be open until 11pm every night bar Sunday. I was intrigued.
The interior is very stylish. It looks like a good place to relax of an afternoon or evening.
Their coffee is from London roastery Volcano Coffee Works. It was new to me.
I ordered my usual espresso while chatting to the counter peeps about what their plans were. For now they have no kitchen so it’s just pastries and so forth as their food offering.
Soon enough I was on my way with espresso (£2.40) in hand. It was explained as having a chocolatey finish which I didn’t particularly find but it was very well-crafted stuff. I liked it a lot.
So overall, Hyde & Son is an intriguing new place. Today is the official launch – having been in soft open for a couple of weeks – so it’s definitely a place to add to your list. I will be interested to see how their offering develops over time.
