Man on Fire

I’d heard some very strong reports about Portobello burger slinger Man on Fire so was keen to give them a look not least for Burgerquest purposes.

Exterior

I’d had a couple of previous goes at trying their wares but for one reason or another things hadn’t quite worked out. On a blazing hot Saturday, I wandered along Portobello High Street to visit their compact cafe premises.

If memory serves, this place used to be The Scranary. I’d had a fair breakfast here after a dental appointment a few years ago. The place is simply appointed with not much in the way of frills.

Burger, fries, soda

The menu contains various elaborate burger topping combos but my aim was to try their cheeseburger. I added fries as it had been a long old stroll to get here.

Everything is cooked to order and on a popular day things took just a moment or two to arrive. The items looked monstrously good when they were delivered to my table.

Burger

The chips were good without setting pulses racing but the burger was a different story. It was right up there with BBL and Jones & Son as the finest in the city. The cheese came in the form of a tangily melty sauce that comprehensively covered things. The burger itself was moist and deeply meaty. I was very pleased with it, so much so that it becomes the latest Burgerquest exceptional.

So overall, I was glad to finally tick Man on Fire off the list. It’s the best option in the city for a burger that can be delivered to your door and is a serious contender in any conversation about the best overall burger available in the city. Make sure to check it out soon.
