I’ve just about exhausted the delivery takeaway options that serve my current abode so it’s handy that I’m likely moving to a new part of town. But there was time to try a new kid on the block in the shape of Pizza Plus on a recent Saturday evening.
I was joined again by my sister Anne who would probably have preferred that we stuck to her tried and tested favourite Dough, but was game enough to try the new place.
We were intrigued by a couple of their combo meat toppings so settled upon one with meatballs, pepperoni, barbecue sauce, bacon and beef, then another with tandoori chicken, spicy chicken and plain chicken.
I added some twisted dough balls for Ball Quest purposes and some veggie spring rolls because…fuck knows. The total bill was £23.58.
Items arrived a little ahead of schedule, which was good news.
We started with the dough balls which were little twists filled with pepperoni and jalapeno. They were alright. The spring rolls were fine, too.
The pizzas were decent without hitting the heights. The barbecue sauce pushed things over the edge with the meaty pizza and the chicken toppings weren’t distinctly different enough. But the dough was soft and quite light so they still made for satisfying eating.
So overall, Pizza Plus did a reasonable job of catering for our Saturday night takeaway needs. As a new place they’re worth a try but this neck of the woods is competitive so they could perhaps use some refinements, particularly to their toppings, to up their game a notch or two.
