I’d had Brandon’s on my radar for a little while but I don’t find myself in Canonmills all that often. When regular guest quester Freya suggested we go there based on an impressive recent visit she’d made, I was pleased to finally cross their threshold.
I had, of course, been on the premises when it was the Cross & Corner and was sad when it closed as I’d enjoyed it. But progress is relentless…
The new place has a lovely relaxed vibe to it. It has a range of comfy and cosy seating and a warm welcome from the resident fluffy pooch.
Service was a strength throughout with our friendly and attentive waitress looking after us in fine style.
Despite Freya’s protestations that ordering the burger was a cop-out, that’s the route I took. She opted for the flat-iron steak flatbread and a side of miso greens.
Dishes were freshly prepared allowing us a moment or two to bask in the glorious retro soundtrack.
When items arrived they were smartly eye-catching. I started with my chips which were impressively good. Freya’s wrap and greens were very warmly received, too.
My burger slightly fell into the trap of being a little lean but it packed good flavour and the topping of Puddledub bacon made for satisfying mouthfuls.
We rounded things out with excellent coffees from local roastery Williams & Johnson. It was really pleasing to see this high quality coffee made to such a good standard.
So overall, I really enjoyed Brandon’s. They’ve just launched a new weekend brunch menu which looks worthy of attention so go and check it out if you’re looking for fresh ideas. I’ll certainly be back and may even order something other than the burger next time.
