The Hyndland Fox
On a blustery day, I had time for a fairly relaxed lunch near the Gartnavel hospital complex, so I strolled along to the Hyndland Fox on Clarence Drive. I’d spotted it on previous visits to this neighbourhood which took me to Epicures and the Hyndland Cafe so was keen to give it a go.
With a similar feel to Epicures, the Fox is smartly appointed and has a versatile feel to it. Their brunch, lunch and dinner menus offer a broad range of choices to accommodate most tastes.
I was visiting for late lunch so started with their Mull of Kintyre croquettes then followed with their burger.
The starter was swiftly with me looking quite neat. It proved a slightly mixed bag. The crumb of the croquettes was pleasingly crisp but the filling lacked punch. The accompanying pesto was curiously lifeless, too.
I didn’t rate the burger either. It was charred to the point of being burnt and was hard and lean. However, the accompanying remoulade was really good and the chips were excellent, so that somewhat saved the day.
So overall, I think I chose poorly from the Hyndland Fox’s menu. It had the feel of the sort of place I’d appreciate but today’s dishes let it down. Still some of the details gave enough indication that it might be worth another go, so maybe I’ll come back and try other dishes at some point in the future.
