A pretty standard chipshop set up, it seemed popular with locals across a range of ages. I was there directly before an event I was chairing nearby, so my intentions were swift and clear: a single fish.
The fish in question was a monstrous haddock is golden batter. With a little salt applied – sauce would only have ended up down my tie given my munching haste – I was on my way, after pleasantries were exchanged with the friendly counter people.
The batter wasn’t as crisp as it could have been, but it was otherwise a deeply satisfying eat. The fish was moist and the batter had a good substance to it and was beautifully seasoned. It was exactly what I required at that precise moment.
So overall, Tony’s served me a quick and pleasing eat that neatly hit the spot. It chased the early evening hunger with a good quality seafood treat. I’d be happy to visit again and I reckon I’d be tempted by the fish once more.
