Review of the Year – July 2016

July was a bumper month with some really impressive meals.

It’s hard to pick a favourite but the Educated Flea, the Bon Vivant (most popular post of the month), Rollo Broughton, and Mumbai Mansion were all extremely impressive.

The Counter on the Canal brought coffee on a barge to our Edinburgh caffeine options. I really enjoyed my visit to the White House in Craigmillar. It offers really good quality in a community-focussed setting.

Meros was a really pleasing new street food place showcasing tacos and various other Mexican delights.

The breakfast doughnut at Pinnies & Poppyseeds was one of the most entertaining dishes of the year.

Regular contributor Russell expressed his deep love for Usher’s, I really liked Happy Bean Café and the Real Pizza Factory, and it was good to see Rabbie’s continue to develop its impressive offering.

I had my outstanding dish of the year for the first time at Salt Horse, this month.

The only low point, and it was actually a high point in terms of entertaining evenings, was the Trashcan Challenge at McCowans. It was lovely to spend an evening with Jemma from Jemma Eat World, but it was a shame that a fun sounding eating challenge didn’t involve much in the way of tasty food.
