Spilt Milk Social Club

In the entrance way to the Music Base recording studios and rehearsal space, the Spilt Milk Social Club has recently opened. On a rare early morning visit to Leith I popped in for a visit.

The place radiates Shoreditch chic in a way that completely fits a musical creative space. I really liked it although it’s a slightly odd fit for this part of Leith.

The emphasis is on coffee, with some toasties, soup and baked goods as their food offering.

My heart sank when I saw that they were using Myrtle as their coffee. To his credit the friendly counter man made it with care and attention but it just isn’t very good coffee. It would be good to see them swap in something better in due course.

I sampled one of their toasties with a breakfast combo of bacon and cheese. This was served on good quality bread and smartly prepared. It was a satisfying eat.

So overall, although it has some bedding in to do I really rather liked Spilt Milk. It offers something fresh to this part of town and has a really welcoming feel to it. I’d recommend swinging by next time you fancy trying somewhere new in this part of town.
