With Hasbeans now officially a has been, Luscious has taken over the Royal Mile premises ploughing a very similar furrow. I popped in for a rainy day visit.
In much the same style as the previous place, there’s a very eye-catching Edinburgh skyline mural on one of the walls. This seems highly appropriate as this is a cafe at the heart of tourist territory.
The menu offers a very broad range of options. I was in light grazing mode so opted for their hummus falafel wrap, but I could have had pasta, a burger, fish n chips, and any number of other things.
The item soon arrived looking a little on the small side. It proved decently tasty and filling, though, and given it was executed and presented in exactly the same way as the sandwich I’d had at Has Beans, I suspect there is continuity between the two places. Perhaps the name change doesn’t reflect a change in ownership or maybe the same chef remains in the kitchen.
So overall, Luscious is doing reasonably good work and its interior spruce up has certainly addressed some of the problems I found on my previous visit to the site. I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back, though, as it remains just a touch lacklustre.
