The southside i‎s home to a number of impressive coffee shops with newly arrived My Front Room the furthest down the road into deepest, darkest Newington. I paid it a visit to see how it was doing.

The core of their offering brings together coffee from Bathgate supplier Coffee Direct, along with cakes from Archipelago, and soups and salads from Union of Genius. I opted for the latter salad which today was feta, mint and sugar snap peas.

But first I tried the espresso which was pretty decent. I was asked if I preferred my espresso towards the ristretto end of the market which I confirmed I did. What was delivered was a fairly standard shot so I’m guessing they’ve been dealing with requests for very long espressos.

While the salad was prepped, I had a moment to take in the smart surrounding which bring together tiling and light wood for a stylish feel.

The friendly counter woman soon delivered the salad which was slightly awkwardly topped with yoghurt and chopped peppers. 20160816_125809

It proved light and fresh with good substance provided by couscous. I enjoyed it.

So overall, My Front Room looks to be starting life from a very pleasing standard. Their offering showcases some of our city’s best so is a very solid approach, and the coffee is being served with care. Make sure to visit soon.
