As regular readers will know, I don’t love Mexican food even when love is spelled lov, as in the case of Festival stall Lov Mexican. But I was passing by and their sign promised a breakfast torta and given it was 10am and I hadn’t yet eaten it seemed like giving it a go was the best thing to do.
Lov Mexican draws its origins from Lov Sushi which I remember as a delivery service from a while back. They now seem to spend most of their time touring festival events with a number of stalls, including the original sushi one.
The friendly stallholder quickly asked if I was a reporter for some reason. Maybe it was my trench coat and trilby with my press card in the band. I fessed up that I was a reviewer. This led to a bit of a panic when they didn’t have any guacamole made yet and an insistence that I didn’t pay for this one, but should come back and pay for the next one which would include the guac.
Anyhoo, the torta (£6) comprised crisp bacon, fresh tomato and chipotle mayo, lots of rocket and onion on a soft bun. It proved enjoyably fresh eating. I did go back and sample it with the guacamole and that added a lovely extra creaminess to proceedings.
So overall, I enjoyed my trips to Lov Mexican. Do I really want to pay £6 for a posh bacon roll every day? Probably not, but hey it’s the Festival and what they served me was heartily delicious. They’ll be trading in St Andrew Square throughout August.
