Checkpoint Dogs & Wings
I’m a big fan of Checkpoint and visit on a pretty regular basis. I like their menu a lot and their drinks list is well thought-out.
As part of the Assembly George Square food offering, they have a wings and dogs stall called Dogs & Wings. Although I’m not a huge fan of either, I thought I’d give my prejudices a wee challenge.
I wasn’t sure which route to go so sought advice from the counter folks. On their recommendations I opted for the corn dog (£4) and sweet potato fries (£3).
These were cooked to order so there was time for some general chatting and banter which was all very good. I was soon ready to track-down a perch with dogs and fries in hand.
The fries were a good-sized portion for the money, but could have been a wee bit brighter on the seasoning. They were well-salted but could have used a little spice kick as they were otherwise rather bland.
The corn dog was a decent sausage but the batter could have been crisper. It was a fair Festival snack, though.
So overall, Dogs & Wings by Checkpoint didn’t quite hit the heights of their year-round restaurant. It still represented a solid effort in terms of snacks likely to fill a gap that were fairly priced and freshly cooked. If dogs and wings are your thing, pay them a visit.
