Pinnies & Poppyseeds
I had heard about the breakfast doughnut from Pinnies & Poppyseeds only in hushed whispers, so had to go along and give it a try.
For those who don’t know Pinnies, it’s basically the best smelling shop in the city. Writing about it is a pale imitation. The butter…
Their breakfast doughnut is an evolution of the previous secret We Are Jane Dough project, which we encountered at the Festival last year. Pinnies’ owner Jen confessed to being one half of the project, but the identity of the other partner remains shrouded in myth and legend.
The breakfast doughnut comprises a glazed doughnut, maple candied bacon and a fried egg, which Jen cooked to order on a little induction hob.
I vocalised the fear that my shirt was experiencing so Jen passed on a couple of extra napkins in case of yolky spillage. Fortunately the egg had good ooze but was not problematically runny.
The elements came together to provide very good eating with the sweet bacon absolutely outstanding. It’s not an everyday item, but they’re only offering them some days – currently Thursdays and Saturdays – so that works well.
So overall, the Pinnies & Poppyseeds breakfast doughnut is one of those items you’ll need to try. It has high Buzzfeed appeal and is deeply satisfying. Make sure to try it, soon.
